I would like to thank all of you who sent supplies last week for our pancake breakfast. They were delicious, and we had such a fun time. Thanks also for remembering to "Keep it healthy." We have a school wide focus to limit junk food in our diets.
Although it's a short week, we'll be very busy. Read on to find out what we'll be studying.
We begin our 5th unit of study "How the World Works" tomorrow. Along with this unit of study, the students will work on a 4-6 week media project to be completed at school. The projects will be presented at "Exhibition" April 6th to members of the community. They will come listen as your child shares his/her expertise and view all of the 5th grade projects. More details will be sent home this week. Please mark your calendars.
What's happening in 5th grade this week?
We will be reading lots as usual, and we will write book reports about those books. We will also be creating different projects about those books. Students will choose how they'd like to present the information...Glog, Prezi, or Keynote presentation. Book reports will be due this week, and they will be completed in class. The projects will be due at the beginning of next week. Details will be sent home later in the week.
We will review measurement and begin algebra. There will be a quiz next week.
We will be studying the forms and types of energy for the next six weeks. The exhibition project will relate to this subject area.
For the the next six weeks, we will be studying the Westward Movement/ Expansion including the following major concepts: the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and the Gold Rush. We will also discuss the Santa Fe/Oregon Trails, the Homestead Act, the Mexican-American War, the Missouri Compromise and much more. There will be some type of project related to this unit, but I am still brainstorming. I will get back to you on this.
